“The number of terrorists staging attacks over the Indo-Pak border is estimated to be around 200. They are waiting across the line of communication (LoC) to be launched to this side “Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the commander of the Northern Army, responded to a query regarding the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and across the Jammu and Kashmir border with Pakistan. In his opinion, the counter-infiltration grid is virtually foolproof.
Although Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi stated on Friday that infiltration has decreased significantly, he added that there are now 200 terrorists poised across the border preparing to launch an attack into Jammu and Kashmir.
He stated that the truce along the Indo-Pak border has been functioning ‘good’ since the February 2021 accord.
He stated that the number of trained terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir is diminishing with each passing day, as seen by the elimination of 21 foreign terrorists this year alone, despite the absence of local sanctuary and assistance.
“The number of terrorists staging attacks over the Indo-Pak border is estimated to be around 200. They are waiting over the line of communication (LoC) to be launched to this side “In response to a query on the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and across the Jammu and Kashmir border, Dwivedi stated.
In his opinion, the counter-infiltration grid is virtually foolproof.
“We have made certain that all reserve troops have been placed in the second tier of defense to prevent infiltration,” he explained.
For the last twelve months, to put it bluntly, “the number of ceasefire breaches (CFVs) has been extremely restricted — only one to three CFVs have occurred,” he stated.
He underlined that the terror infrastructure, on the other hand, seemed to be intact on the other side of the border. “There are six large terrorist camps and 29 lesser terrorist camps in the country. There are temporary launching platforms located near a number of military establishments, including the Pentagon “he explained.
He criticized the Pakistan army for maintaining the terrorist infrastructure, and he stated that “the cooperation of the Pakistan army and its agencies cannot be disproven.”
He stated that infiltration occurs not only through mountainous areas and woodlands but also through the International Border via Jammu, as well as Punjab, and Nepal, as well as other routes.
“Our goal is to identify these individuals and neutralize them as soon as possible,” he explained.
The Army commander stated that there are 40 to 50 local terrorists operating in the hinterland at any given time, in addition to foreign terrorists, the exact number of whom cannot be calculated.
“However, we have so far neutralized a total of 21 foreign terrorists. It demonstrates that public support for terrorists’ safe havens is diminishing with each passing day “he explained.
The local terrorists that were neutralized, according to Dwivedi, were extremely poorly trained and armed with only pistols.
He expressed alarm about radicalization, stating that youths are increasingly being recruited and that this is a source of concern for the entire community.
“They are being educated in order to remove themselves from the radicalization that Pakistan has instilled in them. The repeal of Article 370 has brought about a shift in the political landscape “he explained.
“The Army is playing a critical role in bringing about this transformation.”
Dwivedi stated that more than 15,000 kids are being taught how to build a brighter future for themselves in their home countries through 48 goodwill schools, according to Dwivedi.
When asked about the likelihood of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) being repealed in Jammu and Kashmir, he responded that the AFSPA will be repealed automatically the day that there is no longer a need for armed guards and paramilitary on the roads.
In regards to the Amarnath Yatra, he stated that sanitization efforts are underway, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being implemented as part of Operation Shiva.
He predicted that the number of pilgrims will more than treble this year when compared to the previous year. “We must take precautions to guarantee that no terrorist activity occurs during the yatra. It has been decided to send additional forces “he explained.
